Coach Marcelo Fernandes breathed a sigh of relief with Santos’ 2-1 win over Coritiba in the Brazilian league last Thursday. One of those responsible for the triumph of Vila Belmiro was the Venezuelan Soteldo.
The little guy didn’t have an inspired evening, but as bold as he is, he made a beautiful individual play that led to the team’s second goal, scored by Marcos Leonardo. The commander praised the player’s dedication to the club’s day-to-day activities. In the same year he was removed from Paulo Turra’s technical commission for indiscipline.
“We have Soteldo as a winger or even in front of the two defensive midfielders. He is a boy who we can use inside or outside. He is a player who is unbalanced, he is very different”, said the commander.
“He is working so hard, he goes to the gym, he trains hard every day. He is really happy with the birth of his little girl. He is dedicating himself a lot to the club, very faithful to his purpose of keeping Santos in its rightful place,” he added.
Another athlete of the team approached by Marcelo was Vladimir. After conceding seven goals in the embarrassing defeat against Internacional last Sunday, the goalkeeper became the target of criticism from Santos fans, but was not called up by the club for this match due to a sciatic nerve problem. The coach asked for respect for the player.
“What they did to Vladimir was a huge lack of respect. He has eight trophies for the club in that room, with him I was champion in 2015. We ask for a little more respect for the professional. Vladimir simply didn’t come today because he had a sciatica problem, but I can already tell you that on Sunday he will be back on the bench. He deserves all the respect for everything he has experienced and done for the club. Our match today was also for him”, he said.
With the victory, Santos reaches 33 points and leaves the relegation zone of the Brasileirão, with a two-point advantage over Z4. The team now occupies 16th place in the table.
Peixe’s next match will be against Corinthians on Sunday. The classic is scheduled for 6.30pm (Brasilia time), at the Neo Química Arena. If they win, the team will overtake its rival in the tournament standings.
