Disney+ announced an ad-supported plan option in the US in December this year and now believes the strategy has been a success. The company has seen a sizable portion of new subscriptions opt for this version instead of the more expensive plan, and this number is expected to grow even more as other options undergo readjustments.
Plan with ads
Disney defends the plan
Although it may seem illogical, Disney defends the plan with advertising. In fact, when it comes to pricing, CEO Bog Iger already said at the company’s last earnings conference call in August that the option doesn’t follow the increase in value because it’s supported by advertisers.
The reasoning behind this could be because the company receives additional revenue from advertisers based on views.
Therefore, the option with ads may soon arrive in more countries. Canada and some European countries, such as the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy and others, will already have the plan on November 1st.
