Botafogo tries to win again at home after two months

Botafogo have not won at home in three games and are trying to get back on track to winning in their Brasileirão stronghold.

This Sunday (29th), at 8pm (Brasilia time), Botafogo will face Cuiabá in the Brazilian championship, in the final stage of the fight for the tournament title. Undefeated under the guidance of Lúcio Flávio, Alvinegro managed to win again away from home, but the mission now is to triumph at the Nilton Santos Stadium, something that hasn’t happened for two months.

The team’s last home victory came at the end of August, against Bahia. Then, rival Flamengo’s setback began a series of events that culminated in the departure of Bruno Lage, in yet another home stumble, against Goiás.

More recently, with a new coach, Botafogo faced Atletico, on the strength of two consecutive victories. Glorioso opened the scoring, conceded the equalizer and was doing well, but the blackout caused the match to be abandoned. The next day, neither team seemed intent on resolving the tie.

With 11 wins in 14 matches, Botafogo has the best record as a home team in the Brazilian league. With a sequence of four matches in Rio de Janeiro, including three at home, the Nilton Santos (and São Januário) stadium will be an essential factor in the title fight.

Once again, Botafogo fans sold out their tickets early. Over 30 thousand Juventus fans promise a great celebration to push the team towards another victory. With 59 points, the Rio club is leader of the Brasileirão and, with the defeat of its rivals in midweek, can extend its lead further.
