After watching ‘Mission: Impossible 7’, Biden became even more concerned about the use of Artificial Intelligence
The President of the United States, Joe Biden, established new standards and security measures regarding the use of Artificial Intelligence. The decision would be related to Mission: Impossible – Reckoning Part 1. “If Biden was no longer worried about what could go wrong with AI before this movie, he saw a lot more to worry about,” said White House Deputy Chief of Staff, Bruce Reedto the Associated Press (via NME).
Starring Tom Cruise, the feature film shows the narrative’s villain hijacking and sinking a Russian submarine, manipulating images with the characters’ faces and even imitating their voices. All of this made the American president curious about AI.
He himself had already witnessed “fake images of himself and his dog made by AI”, in addition to the “incredible and frightening voice cloning technology”, he reported reed. “AI can take three seconds of your voice and turn it into a fake conversation.”
The changes implemented by Joe Biden — described by the White House as “the largest actions ever taken to protect Americans from the potential risk of AI systems” — are expected to take effect within the next 90 to 365 days.
