If you’ve seen Dark, then you know actor Louis Hoffman (Jonas), who plays one of the main roles in All the Light We Cannot See. To portray the sweet Marie-Laurie, Netflix relied on a young woman who had never been photographed before and whose name is worth remembering: Aria Mia Loberti. Mark Ruffalo and Hugh Laurie round out this high-quality cast.

Much has been expected from All the Light We Cannot See, the Netflix event miniseries. The platform seems to be based on this war drama adapted from Anthony Doerr’s excellent novel that was released in 2015. The first images released by Netflix during the TUDUM event last June are about as poetic as it gets.
It consists of 4 episodes of 1 hour each. Sean Levy (producer of Free Guy, Deadpool 3 and Stranger Things, among others) takes us to the hell of World War II, between the cities of Paris and Saint-Malo.
It is a story on a human scale that is told here: of a young, lonely blind girl who finds solace only in the radio. And an isolated young boy, a witness to incredible violence, who also escapes his world thanks to this machine. They both have the same thing in common, but they don’t know it yet.
All the light we don’t see is a drama full of poetry. It’s impossible not to be charmed by the sweetness and strength of her character, played by young Aria Mia Laubert. This is his first role and it’s hard to believe because he really enjoys playing it.

The entire cast is impeccable, from Louis Hoffman (Darkness Revealed!) to Lars Eidinger (who plays the dreaded German) through Mark Ruffalo (Hulk) and Hugh Laurie (Doctor House). It’s all served up by Steven Knight’s (Peaky Blinders) flawless writing and music.
Voice work plays an especially important role in the Netflix miniseries, and not just because the heroine is deaf. The theme music – a perfectly melancholic piano piece – softens the pain and sorrow of the characters. Between the two American attacks, it’s as much a breather for our two heroes as it is for the audience.
Of course, we can always criticize the Netflix series for Americanizing the subject matter. The characters speak flawless English, be it French or German. A choice that the screenwriter and director justify by wanting to be faithful to the novel written in English.
In addition, all the light we are going to remain a war series at eye level, a strong and attractive heroine.
