Carol Meligeni opened the center court program this Tuesday (14) with a solid victory over Colombian Maria Paulina Perez Garcia, by doubles 6/1.

“I’m very happy with my match today. The first round is always a little more tense. I’ve been playing against her since I was little at COSAT. It was really nice to be able to play here in Rio, with the fans, in this first edition of the tournament. I’m very happy to be here, to have managed to play well, to do several important things in today’s match. Now it’s time to continue enjoying the tournament and improve with each match”, said Carol, who faces the Austrian Sinja Kraus, leader of group 6, in the round of 16, only on Thursday (16th).

Thaisa Pedretti achieved her first win in a WTA tournament. Coming from the qualifiers, the Sao Paulo native beat Chilean Antonia Vergara Rivera 7/6 6/4.

“I’m very happy for my first win in the WTA. I worked a lot to get to this moment. Today I knew it would be a tough match, Antonia is coming off excellent results, she’s very solid and a warrior. In the first set I was behind, I started a little nervous, but I managed to control my emotions and find my game again. In the second set I took the lead, and even when I lost four games in a row, I kept calm and managed to close it out. I’m very happy and now it’s time to move on to the next one. round”, said Pedretti, who faces the Austrian Julia Grabher, seed 3, tormentor of Laura Pigossi.
