Tonight on TV: The movie that makes us want to go out to the bar

In 1997, screenwriter Gina Wendkos came across the article Coyote’s ugly cabin museElizabeth Gilbert wrote in the magazine GQ. The latter recounts her experiences as a coyote girl at the Coyote Ugly Saloon bar in New York City.

Gina Wendkos is inspired to write the story of Violet Sanford, a 21-year-old young woman who dreams of becoming a diva and achieving fame. Leaving the family home in New York, he goes from disillusionment to failure. Cornered, she agrees to work with provocative waitresses at a famous country bar. In this world of Amazons, Violet gains some showmanship and real fame…

The project, called Coyote Girls, is produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, of his many successes (such as Flashdance, Beverly Hills Cop, Bad Boys and Top Gun), who entrusts the direction to David McNally.

So the latter puts his experience as a director of commercials and music videos (especially Celine Dion) to his first feature film. There’s an infectious energy, supported by a rousing soundtrack and an ultra-sexy cast: Piper Perabo (who became a teen favorite in the 2000s), as well as Tyra Banks, Isabella Miko and Bridget Moynahan.

released in 2000, Coyote Girls seduces the public. With a budget of $45 million, the film grossed over $113 million worldwide. Following this success, the Coyote Ugly bar chain also expanded into the United States.
