How I Met Your Mother: An Alternate Ending That Reunites Fans With The Series

In March 2014, after 9 seasons and a total of 208 episodes, How I Met Your Mother was coming to an end. This famous show, which many consider a worthy successor to Friends and which even became Quentin Tarantino’s favorite series (!), still had a bittersweet conclusion that was not to everyone’s taste. Fans, far away!

Indeed, after spending the entire series telling his two children how he met their mother, Ted Mosby finally got the point across the last two episodes of Season 9. After the marriage of Robin and Barney, the young man was preparing to leave New York. To try to find true love elsewhere.

Before leaving, on the station platform, he finally decided to talk to the bassist of the band that played at the wedding: a young woman named Tracy, waiting in the rain, sheltered under the famous yellow umbrella. Teddy finally met the great love of his life.

Unfortunately, we learned that after marrying Ted and having two children with him, Tracy became seriously ill and died. When he became a single father, the children convinced him to go find Robin, about whom he never stopped talking to them throughout his story, and who also finally broke up with Barney – Teddy finally returned to his first New York idyll, equipped with kindness. The old blue hunting horn from the first episode.

As we said earlier, this sad and melancholic ending largely divided the fans. Many were indeed hoping for a much more cheerful and upbeat outcome for the series they’ve been following for nearly a decade. Fortunately for the latter, in September 2014, a much nicer and much more classic alternate ending was revealed.

As you can see in it (above), this conclusion plays out exactly as you imagine: Teddy recalls all the important events that led up to his search for true love, and finally arrived at the meeting with Tracy, the station, the rain and the yellow umbrella.

“See? It was easy. And so, kids, I met your mother.”Ted then concludes without the slightest allusion to illness or disappearance.

This is the end of the episode, the season and the series. With this other epilogue we can conclude that Ted and Tracy lived happily ever after and spent their whole life together.
