Like many monuments to pop culture, the sitcom Friends is full of little hidden details that the most curious fans can enjoy throughout the episodes.

Although Matthew Perry, the unforgettable interpreter of Chandler, recently passed away at the age of 54, let’s focus today on a relatively subtle wink presented by the opening credits of the series. The famous musical scene was filmed in an icy fountain, during which the deceased actor released the first valve to heat the atmosphere.

Have you ever wondered what the 6 colored dots crossed between the letters of the title stand for? For six characters in the series, obviously. But still ? To find out, just watch the credits of the first episode and press pause at exactly 9 seconds.

For a brief moment between two dance moves, the six actors gather on their favorite couches while simultaneously opening six colorful umbrellas: two red for Rachel and Ross (who quickly fall in love), two blue for Chandler and Joey (who share the same apartment for a long time), and two yellow Monica and Phoebe.

The report is there! The logo’s six little colored dots therefore refer directly to the umbrellas deployed by the gang from the show’s pilot episode. A simple and subtle wink that many viewers never noticed, even though it’s been right under our noses since Friends started.
