They came back. Forty years after the iconic cartoon based on Tsukasa Hojo’s Japanese manga, Cilia, Tamara and Alexia are soon back for new adventures. If Cat’s Eyes has seen many adaptations and sequels, in manga, television, film and even a play, it is in the form of a series, moreover, in live action (that is, in real footage) and in France that the three heroes talk about themselves again this time. But what exactly do we know about this cat-eye comeback?
What are the cat’s eyes?
Originally, Cat’s Eyes, which ran for two seasons between 1983 and 1985, tells the story of three sisters, Tamara, Alexia and Silia, who run a cafe together, Cat’s Eye (which can be translated as “Cat’s Eye”). At least during the day. Because at night, the three sisters become powerful thieves who are only trying to recover the works that belonged to their father, a German artist who disappeared without a trace during the Second World War. Tamara, Alexia and Silia hope to find him by collecting his entire collection.
The new version of Cat’s Eyes should be a continuation of the original story. The action will take place in Paris in 2023. After years away from each other, Alexia, Silia and Tamara meet again, without emotions. At the same time, a work that belonged to their father and disappeared about ten years ago in a mysterious fire in his art gallery, reappeared in a prestigious exhibition at the Eiffel Tower. After that, the three sisters decide to do whatever it takes to get their hands on the case. Only, the police were very quick to track them down…
Who will be in the cast of Cat’s Eyes?
Camille Lou, Constance Labbé and Claire Romain (Here It All Begins) have been cast as the suitcase sisters. The first plays Tamara, the second Silia, and the third Alexia.
Beyond this trio, other familiar faces make up the cast of the series. MB14 (voice, tenor) will play the character of Quentin Chappuis, a police inspector who keeps track of the cat’s eyes… while ignoring that one of them is his great love, now lost. Also next to them: Carol Bouquet, Gilles Cohen, Maxene Dunnet-Favell (SKAM France), Simon Erlacher (Plus belle la vie), Gregory Fitus, Elodie Fontan, Ophelia Kolb (Dix pour cent) and even Gilbert Melk.
Who will direct Cat’s Eyes?
Behind the adaptation of the popular 1980s manga and cartoon is Alexandre Laurent, a French director that TF1 viewers are already familiar with without even knowing it.
Indeed, Alexandre Laurent has directed several mini-series for the channel, such as the fantasy drama Le Secret d’Elise (2016), the detective mini-series La mante (2017), or, more recently, the historical dramas Le bazaar of. Charity (2019) and Les Combatantes (2022).
Alexandre Laurent also directed several episodes of TF1 series such as RIS: Science Police (2008-2012), Alice Nevers: The Judge is a Woman (2011-2012), Profilage (2011-2014) and Falco (Far). 2013 and 2014).
When and where will the cat’s eyes be filmed?
Filming of the series began on October 19 in Paris and the Paris region. In particular, scenes were filmed at the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre Museum, the Palace of Versailles, the Guimet Museum, the Paris Mint, and even on barges on the Seine. 8 episodes of 52 minutes are expected.
Where will Cat’s Eyes be broadcast?
Although in France, the Japanese cartoon had been shown since 1986 on FR3 (which has since become France 3), it was TF1 that decided to adapt it.
For this occasion, the channel has for the first time entered into a partnership with the American streaming platform Amazon Prime Video. “We are in discussions with most international platforms to help them benefit from TF1’s know-how to produce content with high added value for the French public.” In return, they offer global exposure.”Ara Afrikian, deputy general director of programs for the TF1 group, explained to our colleagues in Ouest-France last June.
When will the cat’s eyes come out?
At the moment, the exact date is not yet known. However, Cat’s Eyes has already been introduced as a series of events for TF1 for the start of the 2024 academic year.
Just like Le bazaar de la charitĂ© or Les combatantes with Netflix, Cat’s Eyes should see its first TV broadcast on TF1, before a second broadcast on Amazon Prime Video in late 2024.
Meanwhile, it is now possible to (re)discover the original version of Cat’s Eyes online on MyTF1where the full two seasons are available.
