Brazil captures unprecedented gold in individual all-around rhythmic gymnastics and wins group stage at Pan American Championships

Rhythmic gymnastics won three medals for Brazil at the Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile, this Thursday. Bárbara Domingos won an unprecedented gold in the all-around, while Maria Alexandre took bronze. Overall, the country placed on the top spot on the podium.




Bárbara Domingos finished Thursday with 129.550 points. This Thursday she scored 31.150 on ribbons and 32.200 on clubs, which added to her bow and ball scores from last Wednesday. The Brazilian preceded the North American Evita Griskenas, silver with 127.400, and the 16-year-old Brazilian Maria Alexandre, bronze with 118.950.

It was the first gold in the all-around rhythmic gymnastics event in Brazil’s history at the Pan American Games. On Friday and Saturday, Bárbara Domingos will still have the chance to win four more medals, in the apparatus finals.

Brazil also shone as a team. Overall, which adds the mixed event and arches scores, Bárbara Galvão, Gabriela Coradine, Giovanna Silva, Nicole Pircio and Victoria Borges scored 64.450 and won gold. Mexico came second, with 61,750 and the United States closed the podium, with 58,300.
