Why haven’t these two characters returned in ‘Jurassic World: Dominion’?

Director Colin Treverrow Explains Why He Hasn’t Bringed Back These Two ‘Jurassic Park’ Characters

‘Jurassic World: Dominion’ has been able to bring back the original ‘Jurassic Park’ trio of Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblumbut not everyone from the first film was able to return for the franchise’s conclusion.

Despite the return of Doctors Ian Malcolm, Ellie Sattler and Alan Grant, two familiar faces from the original film and The Lost World were notably absent: Lex and Tim Murphy.

Lex and Tim, played by Ariana Richards and Joseph Mazzellorespectively, appeared in the classic titles as John Hammond’s grandchildren, and while a return might have been nice, the director Colin Trevorrow explained why he decided against it.

While reflecting on BD Wong’s continued appearance in Jurassic World as Dr. Henry Wu, Trevorrow admitted to The Hollywood Reporter that the number of cameos for Dominion had finally reached a limit.

“Each one of these characters consumes so much oxygen in every room they go into that we really needed to be careful and considerate,” he replied when asked about Lex and Tim’s absence.

I’ve always tried to get a good idea of when it would start to feel like a circus or something. Where it’s like, ‘Who’s the special guest in this scene?’ And we have five characters from the original ‘Jurassic Park’ cast 29 years later.”

Explaining the repeated appearances of Dr. Henry Wu, the filmmaker continued: “BD Wong has been in all three of these movies, and he’s a major character in this movie.”

“When you’re looking at a movie like ‘Jurassic Park,’ which probably had a total of eight characters and five of them are in this movie, that’s actually a lot.”

Another absence in Dominion is Jake Johnson’s character Lowery. (who has already expressed a desire to return), who became a fan favorite after ‘Jurassic World’. However, Lowery, along with Vivian, also a Jurassic World control room employee, has been absent from the series since the first film.

While Trevorrow had originally planned to bring Johnson back for Dominion, a scheduling conflict got in the way once filming was delayed due to the ongoing global pandemic.

However, it is not all bad news, as Colin has confirmed the off-screen fate of Lowery and Vivian.
