What if, after Lord of the Rings universe, Peter Jackson became the new official director of the Beatles? After the exciting documentary series “Get Back Back”, the New Zealand director was commissioned to make a music video for the song. Now and thenThe last song recorded by the band before breaking up.
A demo of the song was recorded on one cassette, but never finished. A few years after John Lennon’s murder, three other Beatles – Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr – teamed up for The Beatles Anthology, an album that combines remastered songs as well as previously unreleased tracks.
The idea of offering Now and Then in this album was abandoned, the technology of the time did not allow the use of John Lennon’s vocal track. But the advent of digital media and the software that Peter Jackson’s teams developed for the documentary Get Back changed everything!
So this happy coincidence allowed the four Beatles to reunite for this new song. Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr participated in the musical arrangement and recording of the music video, while John Lennon and George Harrison (b. 2001) appear in archive footage.
