The driver is released after paying bail; The clash occurred on Friday night
A video circulating on social media documented a shocking accident last Friday night (3) on BR-116, near the city of Caxias do Sul.
In the images, a drunk driver in a VW Polo is caught while traveling on the wrong side of the motorway, seconds before colliding head-on with a GM Celta, near the entrance to the Planalto neighbourhood. The breathalyzer carried out by the Federal Highway Police (PRF) confirmed the drunkenness of the driver of the Polo, a 21-year-old young man. He was arrested in the act, but, after posting bail, he was released. The 26-year-old driver of the Celta was taken to hospital for checks and is out of danger. Both vehicles involved in the accident were towed and the road was reopened to traffic.
Shocking images captured the driver of the Polo as he traveled about a kilometer on the wrong side of BR-116, towards Av. São Leopoldo-Monumento Imigrante. Shortly before the accident, other vehicles, including a public transport bus, had to maneuver to avoid a collision with the young man’s vehicle.
