This is a series we all need. One that speaks to us of hope, even in times of war. After its release on Netflix, All the Light We Cannot See was a huge success, logically finding its place in the top 10.
Partly shot in France, this series by sunny actress Aria Mia Lobert is an adaptation of Anthony Doerr’s 2014 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel. The 624-page book tells the story of Marie-Laure LeBlanc, a young blind French woman who took refuge with her uncle during World War II, and Werner Pfennig (Louis Hoffman), a German teenager who is a real genius in radio broadcasting. . Through a shared secret bond, they find faith in humanity and see a glimmer of hope.
Adapted for the screen by Steven Knight ( Peaky Blinders ) and directed by Sean Levy ( Stranger Things ), All the Light We Cannot See is indeed a mini-series, with no plans for a second season, as the two men have confirmed. In the interview:
“Initially, we were going to make 6 episodes, but we told ourselves that we shouldn’t extend the book. And we can already confirm that there will be no continuation”.
Warning, the following paragraph contains some spoilers. It must be said that the last episode ends the story quite satisfactorily: Marie and Werner manage to escape from von Rompel, an officer who wanted to take over the Ocean of Fire. A German teenager finally surrenders to the American army that has come to liberate Saint-Malo…
