Tonight on TV: One of the most intense French films of the decade

After spending the night of December 1, 2018, collapsing in the emergency room of a hospital in Larriboiser, Catherine Korsin had the idea to make the hospital the key to her next film.

After two impossible period films La Belle Saison and Un Amour, the filmmaker tackles hot news – yellow vests, exploding hospitals amid the Covid-19 pandemic… – with La Fracture.

Set on a winter night in 2018, the film follows three characters who encounter the harsh and troubled atmosphere of an overcrowded emergency department. Rafi, who broke his arm, accompanied by his wife Julie, and Ian, who was injured at the Yellow Vest rally.

With a hand-held camera, Catherine Corsini dives into this nightmarish nightmare, where the tension never lets up. In this social tragicomedy, which sometimes leans towards a documentary (in the film The Guardians, including the revelation of Aissatou Diallo subject, who was awarded a César for the best supporting actor), the director manages to mix laughter and tears, anger and tenderness. Intimate and political. A great trio of all actors: Valeria Bruni Tedeschi, Marina Fois and Pio Marmai.

Nominated for César for Best French Film 2022, division It is undoubtedly a mirror of the era.
