3 hours and a crazy cast: we know when the most ambitious French film of 2024 will be released!

Five years after the release of Le Grand Bain, Gilles Lelouch returns to directing for L’Amour ouf. The shooting of this very ambitious film has been completed after 88 days of shooting.

You’ll have to be patient to discover the film: it will hit the big screen on October 16, 2024, with a possible detour at the Cannes Film Festival if the editing is ready in time.

L’Amour ouf tells the love story between a little bandit and his cheeky bride, with stories and stories colliding, as summarized by Pierre Lesquieur in the show. Nice gesture on France 2, which devoted a long report to the film.

The film, which promises to be very wide-ranging, will gather a great cast: François Civil and Adele Exarchopoulos (currently starring in Mélanie Laurent’s Voleuses, see our video interview above). Both, for reference, shared a Bac Nord poster with Gilles Lelouch.

The other two lead roles include Malik Fricka (seen in Apaches) and Mallory Vanek (seen in Les Pires). They will play the young version of the characters played by François Civil and Adele Exarchopoulos. L’Amour Ouf takes place in several eras and crosses temporalities.

Ultra violent romantic comedy

L’Amour Ouf will have the uniqueness of crossing genres. “A mix of genres, especially musical comedy. It’s a teenage movie, a love movie…“, develops Gilles Lelouch on the microphone of Beau Geste.

In terms of references, the producers are hailing the director’s love for cinema that echoes Scorsese, Tarantino or West Side Story… and we happen to hear that the film will have an XXL length as the references quoted…

Gilles Lelouch indicates that the film will continue “At least 3 hours“! For the dance part, the director called the most sought-after company of the moment: the collective (La)Horde, for which this will be their first foray into cinema.

For the record, L’Amour Ouf will be Gilles Lelouch’s third feature film, following Narco and Grand Bane. The latter was very successful, with 4.3 million records. As the director explains, it was the success of this film that allowed him to realize this new project, which he had been thinking about for 17 years!
