Nine-nine! Welcome to Brooklyn’s 99th Precinct, where seven NYPD detectives and a secretary must learn to work under their new commander: the serious, stoic and restless Captain Raymond Holt.
But in this hectic police station, everyone has to try to fulfill their duty to protect and serve the city residents, their personal life and crazy office life.
A truly beloved series (that has heart), it’s impossible not to get attached to Brooklyn Nine-Nine and its team of cops, led by the ever-crazier, brilliant, and hilarious Andy Samberg.
Although it is mainly focused on the now iconic Jake Peralta, the show that became important between 2013 and 2021 won over a whole generation of viewers who are also fascinated by the police adventures of the latter’s colleagues: Amy, Rosa. Charles, Terry, Hitchcock, Scully and Gina, all led by dear Captain Holt, are played respectively – and superbly – by Melissa Fumero, Stephanie Beatriz, Joe Lo Truglio, Terry Crews, Dirk Blocker, Joel McKinnon Miller and Chelsea Perrett.
And if Brooklyn Nine-Nine It quickly established itself as one of the best sitcoms of the 2010s thanks to its ability to tackle serious topics while maintaining a sense of humor: a quality for which it was particularly admired.
Created by Dan Gurry and Michael Schur, the procedural comedy – reminiscent of The Office, the start of a crazy police investigation – was indeed praised by critics and won a Golden Globe for its first season, which also offered. Andy Samberg Golden Globe for Best Actor. The series also earned Andre Braugher four Emmy Award nominations, as well as two Critics’ Choice Television Awards.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine has the distinction of cleverly poking fun at stereotypes about the police and the generational differences between the old and new generation of officers. From the beginning, the show did not shy away from discussing difficult topics such as homosexuality in the police or even police brutality – a particularly sensitive topic in the United States, which even forced a change in the script… and for its portrayal of LGBTQ+ people, the fiction won the 2018 GLAAD Media Award.
Its influence was such that when Fox unfairly decided to cancel it in 2018 after five seasons, NBC rushed to save it the next day. There, it would run for three more seasons before closing in 2021.
