Bridgerton fans will love The Buccaneers

If you’ve been waiting for a new season of one of Netflix’s hit shows, Bridgerton, I suggest you switch to the new romance series in suits to wait you out.

In this British fiction 8 episode series, you follow a group of young American women who want freedom, power and emancipation in a world where marriage to the right partner is a relentless pursuit.

Pitting the minds of these American hotties against their high society British conquests during the season of the late 19th century debutante balls, the clash of cultures is guaranteed to have its share of drama, romance and low kicks!

This new spin-off series is called The Buccaneers and is adapted from American author Edith Wharton’s unfinished novel of the same name, published posthumously in 1938. Created by Catherine Jakeways, this addictive new fiction seduces with inspiring portraits of women in its tortured romance. but also with its lavish costumes and decorations.

Fans of the series will find familiar faces in the cast, such as Christine Frozet (The Truth About Harry Quebert, Community), Alisha Boy (13 Reasons Why), Josie Tota (Survivor Call), Imogen Waterhouse (The Outpost) or even Christina Hendricks (Mad Men). The Buccaneers is also an opportunity for Mia Tripleton, Kate Winslet’s daughter, to shine in this choral series.

After Carla Gugino and Mira Sorvino’s first adaptation as a mini-series in 1995, the story of the Buccaneers is updated in this new modern and refreshing fiction that manages to find the right balance between respecting the source material and respecting it. Feminist reflection and a more fantastic, confident and sensual form, sometimes even anachronistic.

Between Marie-Antoinette as seen by Sofia Coppola and Chronicles of BridgertonThe Buccaneers is the perfect little cake for fans of complex romances, period costume fantasy, twist-filled dramas and inspiring, rebellious heroines.

The first three episodes of The Buccaneers are available on Apple TV+ through the platform and myCANAL. The rest of the series will be available one episode a week.
