In an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, the ACI president says that there is an agreement for the permanence of Monza and Imola. But there are still details.
One of the concerns of F1 fans is that the category will abandon historical places and only go where it pays more. The CEO of F1, Stefano Domenicali, made it clear that the intention is to find a balance between the two parts, despite knowing that the queue at the facilities has started to grow again and a large part of the income comes from the values of the organisers.
A nod to the traditionalists was the renovation of Interlagos until 2030. The Sao Paulo circuit has been the scene of important races, including even the little-loved Sprint races. Now more news on the matter is reaching the public.
In an interview given this Thursday (9) to the Gazzetta dello Sport, Angelo Damiani Sticchi, president of the Automobile Club Italiano (ACI), revealed that he already has an agreement with F1 to renew the agreement with Monza until 2030 ( the same period as Interlagos).
Numerous infrastructure modernization works are underway on the circuit and the race has a contract with the category until 2025. According to the director, part of the interventions should be ready in time for next year’s race.
Imola is also expected to stay until 2030
What caught attention in the interview is that Sticchi revealed that negotiations are also underway for Imola to remain on the F1 calendar. Since the race did not take place this year due to rain, an extension of the current 1-year agreement was taken for granted. But Sticchi says that the situation in Imola is clearer than that in Monza.
“Imola has the clearest situation because the administrators, the Municipality and the Government of Emilia Romagna have committed to finishing the modernization of the circuit by spring (end of June), including new garages and paddock clubs. Monza already has restrictions for as regards the environmental part and the contract with the Consórcio Parque (current administrator) lasts until 2028”, explains Sticchi.
In this respect Sticchi says he hopes to be able to count on the support of the National Government and Local Authorities towards Monza. The modernization works in Monza are carried out with ACI funds and the director hopes that the Government of Lombardy (the state in which Monza is located) will also collaborate, following the same model as Imola.
“It was inevitable that there would be an increase in costs from 2026 onwards, also because Monza currently pays less than all the others in Europe. Today it is impossible to cover the costs of a GP with box office receipts alone. everyone’s governments collect taxes to support them. Everyone must do their part, “concluded the leader.
