Disney may resume licensing content to Netflix; understand

Disney is considering relicensing its content to Netflix five years after the partnership ended, Variety reported. The information was made known by the company’s CEO, Bob Iger, during a meeting to present the results to shareholders, held on Wednesday (8).

These are real and obviously competitive and differentiating advantages. [Mas] Productions from Disney, Pixar, Marvel and “Star Wars”, for example, continue to perform well on our platform [o Disney+], and I see no reason, other than to make money, that would lead us to license these titles. They are still very important building blocks for the current moment and for the future of our streaming enterprise.

As Folha de São Paulo recalled, the executive’s new strategies come two years after his stance against the licensing of Disney titles to companies competing with Disney+. It’s worth mentioning that the announcement also comes – not surprisingly – after Warner Bros. Discovery resumes licensing HBO titles to Netflix.

Also during the earnings call, Iger also announced a plan to unify Disney+ and Hulu. A test app will launch later this month.

Among other news, the head of the Mickey Mouse house celebrated the milestone of over 150 million streaming subscribers, compared to 146.7 million in the previous quarter.
