‘We’ve never seen this in France’: Muriel Robin leads the investigation in Master Crimes on TF1

On Thursday 9 November, TF1 invites its viewers to discover its new detective series Master Crimes with Muriel Robin from 9.10pm. In this delightful piece of fiction, the acclaimed comedian plays criminology professor Louise Arbus, who is sometimes eccentric but (almost) always accurate in solving her investigations with the police and four of her students…

With AlloCiné, the actor (who also explained how Master Crimes differs from Murder) reflects on this new experience in his career…

AlloCiné: Have you had a secret passion for news all these years?

Muriel Robin: I was very interested in the news. About twenty years ago I went to the stores looking for books on current events and secretly said to myself:It would have something to do with it.”.

I even made a list of things that could be treated, but I didn’t have the mentality to see what to do with them. Besides, I’m not good at criminal cases. It is not good at all! Sometimes I don’t understand everything. (laughs)

Can you introduce us to Louise Arbus, your brilliant character in Master Crimes?

He’s a professor of criminology and it’s interesting because we haven’t seen this in France yet! I really liked this aspect. He transmits and what he learns in class to his students, he also teaches the audience.

I like him very much because he is smart. He has a certain distance from what he experiences, his investigations. His brain is not designed like others. We always wonder what’s going on up there!

We also have fun with Louise, but not like people can through my shows. Every time he leaves a sequence, we wonder if he’s going to say his fancy little catchphrase! This character affects his relationship with Captain Delandre, who is in the square, it allows him to calm him down!

He always has a sparkling eye, he is mischievous and eccentric. She’s a bit of a rock because she does things she’s not allowed to do, always wearing pumps and, if possible, the same color as her bag. (laughs)

But although he stands a little above the others, he is not at all arrogant. He is good! And all this around a well-crafted thriller that is no excuse for comedy.

You are sharing a Master Crimes poster with your spouse. Ann Le Nen. How did this shooting together go?

Anna is my best friend and vice versa. At home, there is a practical side: we can rehearse our texts and then talk to each other about the characters, ask for advice. but as soon asAction!“There’s no more Anne and Muriel. It’s happening by itself. There’s another one.”Cut!“Obviously, we’re going back at this moment to the very strong complicity that we can have that has to do with our relationship.

Did you participate in the writing of this project or did you sometimes improvise?

I didn’t participate in the writing at all, but when we finish the series, if something comes to me, I have the right to add something, because then they choose to keep it or cut it during editing.

If at the end of a scene they say to themselves: “Here, it will not be bad to laugh here!“But it wasn’t written, I added a little improvisation. For example, my character says: “You clean the corners well.” and i say”You clean the corners, corner by corner, corner by corner…(laughs)

Your character always appears dressed to the nines, in a suit and heels. Did it help you in the game or was it uncomfortable?

It helps and it was almost a request from me! After playing Marie Besnard or Jacqueline Sauvage, where I was quite old and ugly, I said to myself:Next time I want to wear Louboutins… wouldn’t be bad! I would change a little.” (Laughs) It’s crazy, because the producers clearly understood and remembered! Perhaps it was not by chance that I ended up in the series.

I think it is very important, clothes, shoes… but especially shoes. We are not talking about the same thing in heels and three-centimeter and ten-centimeter heels. We are not the same woman. Try it, I’ll tell you! I don’t know what size you are, I can send you some models! (laughs)

What did you think of the four young actors who play Louise’s students in Master Crimes: Tais Vokieres (Valentine), Astrid Ross (mia), Nordin Ganso (Boris) and Victor Meutlet (Samuel)?

Listen, I love them! First of all, because when they arrive, they know their lines. They each have a very different and interesting personality to the series. They are sometimes funny, as is more the case with Thais and Nordin. Their characters carry a bit more comedy than the other two, but they’re all pretty cool.

We really enjoy working together. That is, we are already a small family and we like each other very much. And then I always think about the audience and tell myself that if we don’t like the oldest one, we’ll have a captain a little younger… and if he doesn’t like it, we’ll have one. When another four to eat!
