The city of São Paulo will set up ten tents distributed throughout the city to provide water and fruit to the vulnerable population on days of intense heat. The forecast for the next few days is that thermometers will exceed 36 degrees Celsius (ºC), as well as humidity levels below 30% in the hottest hours. The service, which will operate from 10am to 4pm, will begin being offered this Friday (10th).
Similar to Operation Low Temperatures (OBT), the action is triggered when the temperature in the capital reaches 32 ºC, or equivalent thermal sensation. In addition to providing assistance in tents, municipal officers will encourage people to seek shelter from the sun, hydrate and eat. An ambulance will be available for assistance.
According to the municipal government, there are 25 thousand reception places for homeless people, distributed in reception centers, social hotels, adult republics, Vilas Reencontro, emergency services, among others.
Routing is performed for each service “depending on the profile of the person and the type of service, respecting the history of the person or family to be welcomed.”
The tents will be distributed as follows:
- Central Region: at Praça da República and Praça Marechal Deodoro;
- Southern Region: in Santo Amaro (Praça Floriano Peixoto, nº 54) and Capela do Socorro (Praça José Boemer Roschel);
- Northern Region: in Santana (Avenida Cruzeiro do Sul, nº 3.180) and in Vila Maria (Praça Novo Mundo);
- Eastern Region: in Guaianases (Praça Presidente Getúlio Vargas, s/n), Itaquera (Avenida Musgo de Flor and Avenida Imperador, under the Jacu Pêssego viaduct) and Mooca (Praça Cid José da Silva Campanella);
- Western Region: in Lapa (Rua do Curtume, s/n – corner Guaicurus).
