For several months now, Disney+ has been heavily focusing on Korean dramas, offering a wide selection of all kinds of programming, from romance to drama to horror. This November, the thriller platform takes center stage with the release of the intense action series Vigilante.
Presented in the screen category at the Busan International Film Festival in October, the film tells the story of Kim Jeong’s double life as a model student at the police academy by day and a raging vigilante by night. After helplessly witnessing the death of his mother when he was a child, a young man decides to take justice into his hands and attack criminals who escape the law.
But his actions clearly do not go unnoticed… Choi Mi-ryo, a TV journalist, quickly discovers the connection between the various cases and tries to uncover the identity of the man he nicknames “Vigilante”. And it’s not the only person on his trail, as Inspector Jo Heon also leads the investigation to find this notorious shadowy hero.
A dark and brutal series
Extremely violent and rhythmic, the Vigilante series is based on the webtoon of the same name, written by CRG and illustrated by Kim Gyu-Sam. For this adaptation, director Choi Jeong-yeol had to accomplish quite a bit in condensing the original work into 8-episode seasons.
“I worked hard to select the most intriguing elements of the original work: the development of relationships between the characters and the subsequent events. He trusted Korea Times.
In the main role, we find the actor Nam Joo-hyuk, who changes register after shining in many romantic dramas such as Twenty Five Twenty One, Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo or Start-Up.
He is joined on screen by Yoo Ji-tae ( Money Heist: Korea, The Healer ) as Inspector Jo Heon, Kim So-jin ( Through the Darkness ) as journalist Choi Mi-ryeo and Lee Joon-hyuk ( Stranger, Dark Hole ). ).
If you’re looking for a new action series, the first two episodes of Vigilante are available on Disney+. The following episodes will be broadcast weekly, every Wednesday.
