Warning, spoilers. It is recommended to watch season 2 of Loki before continuing reading this article.
With The Marvels in theaters and the Loki series on Disney+, the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to explore multiverse twists in Phase V. who was also suffering from superhero fatigue, folded all his cards.
The sixth and final episode of Loki Season 2, titled “A Magnificent Fate,” truly marks a turning point in the MCU. The character played by Tom Hiddleston went on to have adventures with the TVA (Tribunal of Anachronistic Variations), which manages discrepancies in the multiverse and gaps in the eternal time stream.
Poor Locke was trying to restore order to TVA after the death of “He Who Dwells” (Jonathan Majors), the creator of TVA, at the end of the first season. This event disrupted the eternal time stream and created too many new branches in the multiverse, causing the temporal center to reset.
The Multiverse and the TVA are in danger, and Locke, Agent Mobius (Owen Wilson), OB (Ke Hui Quan), B-15 Hunter (Wunmi Mosaku) and Sylvie, aka Lady Locke (Sofia Di Martino), must solve it. The main problem with the potential destruction of the eternal temporal stream.
Episode 4’s shocking ending suggested that all hope was lost, but that was without considering the ingenuity and courage of the God of Evil. In the final episode of season 2, Loki travels through time, returning each time to the exact moment of the explosion of the eternal temporal stream to stop it with new strategies, to no avail.
He then decides to go even further back in time to that fateful moment at the end of season 1 when Sylvie has to kill “the one who remains” because that’s the event that started it all. But this new tactic is still not correct. Locke then flashes back to his arrival at TVA at the beginning of season one and then realizes what this “glorious destiny” is that he so desperately wanted to achieve.
Loki will make the ultimate sacrifice and take the place of “He Who Lives” in the TVA, becoming the guardian of all time except the eternal time stream. He will seize all the temporary branches and gather them into the “Tree of Life” that will contain his new divine throne in the Citadel at the end of time.
His sacrifice then allows the TVA to return as 2.0, with new guidelines, new directives, and more effective multiverse protection. Loki is more alone than ever on his throne, but has finally fulfilled his glorious destiny to become the Keeper of the Timelines.
A third season for Loki?
After this epic ending, Loki’s epic seems to be over. At least, that’s according to screenwriter Eric Martin, who explained CinemaBlend That the Loki series wasn’t made for Season 3:
“We approached the show as two halves of a book. Season one, the first half. Season two, we’re closing the book on Loki and TVA. I don’t know how far it can go beyond that story. I just wanted to. Tell a full story over the course of those two seasons. “
So Loki’s book is indeed finished, but that doesn’t mean the character will disappear from the MCU. Especially since he took on significant importance at the end of season two, as he is now the guardian of the Timelines. And the multiverse has been a major problem since phase 4 of the MCU started and is still in the current phase 5 and the upcoming phase 6.
It wouldn’t be a surprise if Loki appears in the upcoming MCU movies and series, especially if other characters like Deadpool, Fantastic 4 or even Blade return.

Another detail to consider: Loki is one of the main characters in the MCU who knows about the existence of “He Who Dewells”, along with Ant-Man (Paul Rudd), who fought his variant of Kang the Conqueror in Ant-Man. And Wasp: Quantumania, as he was announced as the big bad guy of the Marvel Universe sequel.
And “He Who Dewells” warned Loki at the end of the 2nd season of his series: they will soon see each other again, especially since he has many options (Victor Time and what we saw in the scene after the ant-credits. The Man and the Wasp: Quantum Mania) .
The case of Jonathan Majors
Therefore, the character of Jonathan Majors (and his variants) is the main antagonist of the future of the MCU, and the end of Loki season 2 confirms this again. However, Marvel Studios is facing a big problem after news of his arrest in New York last March.
Jonathan Majors was actually accused of strangulation, assault and harassment by his ex-partner. Since then, a lengthy investigation has been published Rolling StoneIt highlighted the testimony of several of the actor’s ex-girlfriends who reported psychological and physical abuse by him, as well as former co-workers who reported abusive and intimidating behavior on set.
Several film studios parted ways with the actor, who also lost advertising contracts. And since then, Kang’s interpreter has been awaiting his trial, which has been delayed, as previously reported Deadline.
Because every episode of Loki’s season 2 was filmed when Jonathan Majors’ novel was released, the actor was not removed from this new season, executive producer Kevin Wright explained. Uproxx :
“Victor Tymley has always been a big part of this. The story you’re going to see is what was written, what was filmed. This could be the first Marvel work without reshoots or reshoots.”

The producer also claimed that there was no internal discussion about whether or not to remove Jonathan Majors from the episodes. “Just because the series”. for them “nothing to do”.
So what’s next? According to varietyMarvel Studios is scratching their heads over Jonathan Majors’ future in the MCU sequel, whether to continue in that direction, choose a new actor to replace him, or completely change the identity of the actor. Antagonist of the future of the Marvel Universe. .
According to one of the key negotiators who saw the last episode of Loki, “Marvel’s whole Kang angle is really messed up. And they didn’t get a chance to rewrite it until recently.” It’s hard to imagine Marvel Studios continuing to work with Jonathan Majors.
Artistic obfuscation is complete for the MCU as the direction of the original script is turned upside down, and the stunts – now over – didn’t help matters as future projects were all shelved. We’ll have to wait for official announcements from Disney and Marvel Studios to learn more about the future of the MCU.
Season 2 of Loki is available on Disney+.
