Maisie Williams thought Arya Stark was a lesbian until the last season of ‘Game of Thrones’

“It was a surprise,” says the actress about when she found out about her hetero sex scene in season 8

Maisie Williams has recently revealed that he was quite surprised by a decision made in the final season of ‘Game of Thrones’ on HBO Max.

The actress who played arya stark stated in an interview with Teen Vogue that she thought her character was a lesbian until the sex scene with Gendry Baratheon came along (played by Joe Dempsie) in the eighth season of the series.

“The first time Arya surprised me, I guess it was probably at the end of the series, when she takes off her clothes and sleeps with Gendry,” Williams told the outlet. “I thought Arya was queer, you know? So yes. that was a surprise.”

He even thought it was a technical team joke when he read the scene in his script: “I got to rehearsal and I was reading the scene and I was like, ‘Oh, we’re actually going to do this. When do I shoot it? I need to go to the gym. A whole to-do list,” he said at the time.

Earlier this year, Maisie Williams acknowledged that she had felt “ashamed of her body”, and had mixed and complicated feelings about her character in an interview with the British version of GQ.

I think when I started to become a woman, I resented Arya because I couldn’t express who I was becoming.“, said. “And then my body bothered me too, because it wasn’t aligned with the part of me that the world celebrated.”

Maisie Williams is unrecognizable in the Sex Pistols series, her last job as an actress in which plays Pamela ‘Jordan’ Rooke, the muse of punk fashion.
