In the mid-2000s, producer Linda Obst and physicist Kip Thorne, one of the leading researchers in the astrophysical implications of Einstein’s theory of relativity, set out to create a science fiction film with a strong scientific basis.
Also based on the work of scientist and astronomer Carl Sagan, Jonathan Nolan wrote the screenplay for the project, then overseen by DreamWorks. Steven Spielberg was then commissioned to direct it – a position he eventually left and which fell to Christopher Nolan.

The latter then took on a script called Interstellar and followed in the footsteps of his predecessor and mentor. Indeed, through the story of a team of astronauts who explore a new star system in the hope of finding a habitable planet and saving humanity, the filmmaker combines a great space epic with a family drama.
It relies on both unflinching realism – thanks to the technical advice of on-set astronaut Marsha Ivins and Kip Thorne’s special effects modeling advice (awarded by BAFTA) – and a particularly brilliant cast. It consisted of Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Casey Affleck, a very young Timothee Chalamet, and of course Michael Caine, his favorite actor. All enhanced by Hans Zimmer’s score.
Released in 2014 interstellar It grossed $677 million worldwide ($165 million for the budget). In France, it attracted 2.6 million viewers in theaters.
With an average viewer rating of 4.5/5, interstellar Not only is the Christopher Nolan feature film beloved by AlloCiné Internet users (ex aequo (with The Dark Knight and Inception), but simply their favorite sci-fi movie of all time!
