Fernando Diniz’s last call-up to the Brazilian team had 24 names for a reason: the possible absence of Gabriel Jesus. The Arsenal striker has suffered a muscle injury and may not be available for the matches against Colombia and Argentina. Still undefined, Dr. Rodrigo Lasmar has assured that the player will present himself on Monday.
Last Saturday, Gabriel Jesus’ presence was called into question following a statement from Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta that the player would not even be able to train with the team. According to Rodrigo Lasmar, calling him is part of Diniz’s philosophy of keeping the team united.
“We have been following the player’s situation since he got injured. We have been in contact with the player, with the club itself. We know that he is recovering from a muscle injury to the back of his right thigh and has already started working on his adaptation physical on the pitch. But bringing the player is Diniz’s philosophy, bringing the whole group, having all the players close by”, he explained.
The Brazilian team doctor informed that, as soon as he arrives, Gabriel Jesus will be evaluated and treated if necessary. However, it has not been confirmed whether the player will be able to take the field on this FIFA date.
“The player has not arrived yet and I have not assessed him, I will provide a more detailed position. But as soon as he arrives he will do all the assessments and we will continue this final phase of the player’s rehabilitation. We have not made any decisions on when he will play, but it is important having it close,” he said.
In addition to Gabriel Jesus, Fernando Diniz has called up seven other attackers. Endrick, Gabriel Martinelli, João Pedro, Paulinho, Pepê, Raphinha and Vinicius Junior will be available to form the team’s offensive line.
The Brazilian team will take the field this Thursday, at 9pm (Brasilia time), to face Colombia, in Barranquilla. The following Tuesday the team will face Argentina, at 9.30pm, at the Maracanã.
