Although the actors’ strike, which paralyzed Hollywood for almost 5 months, ended a few days ago, American TV channels are already starting to announce the broadcast schedule of their series for the beginning of 2024.
And it was CBS that got the ball rolling yesterday by announcing its lineup. Just in time for the SuperBowl telecast on Feb. 11, the channel will kick off its new season with Tracker , a drama series starring Justin Hartley ( This Is Us ) that is expected to begin production after Thanksgiving. Other feature films of the channel will be offered immediately.
NCIS returns in February
The much-anticipated season 21 of NCIS will air Monday, February 12 on CBS. On that date, its spin-off, NCIS: Hawaii, will return for Season 3.
Unfortunately, these new seasons will be cut short by several episodes due to a strike that delayed production for several months. At the beginning of November, our colleagues at TVLine announced that American channels will have to cut the number of episodes in half.
At best, NCIS season 21 could only consist of 13 episodes instead of the 22 usually suggested. As for other CBS procedurals, notably the NCIS: Hawai’i and FBI franchises, they should have seasons of 10 to 13 episodes.
On the other hand, the sitcom Young Sheldon, which looks back on Sheldon Cooper’s youth, will return on February 15 for a sixth season, which should contain 14 to 15 episodes, while SWAT season 7 will air from February 16.
Delayed launches
This change in programming in the 2023/2024 season not only affected the number of episodes of various series. CBS has pushed back two of its new series to the 2024/2025 season.
Therefore, Matlock, the reboot of the iconic 80s series hosted by Kathy Bates, will not air this year. The same goes for Poppa’s House, the new series from Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr., which has been delayed until next year.
Of the four new series ordered by CBS in May, Tracker and The Good Wife spin-off Elsbeth will begin this season.
