April 20, 2010. The Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded in the Gulf of Mexico. This tragedy, which caused a terrible oil spill, caused the disappearance of 11 people (first missing, then officially declared dead) and more than a hundred injured, not to mention the numerous species of animals affected.
It is the largest environmental disaster in the history of the United States.

In 2011, production companies Summit Entertainment, Participant Media and Image Nation acquired the rights to the article. Deepwater Horizon’s final hourshas been published New York TimesStory of the disaster and its consequences.
The film adaptation project then went to Rick Roman Waugh and J.C. in the hands of Chandor before finally ending up in Peter Berg’s project.
The latter once again demonstrates his talent for directing a story that combines disaster film and human drama.
On the one hand, it focuses on the spectacular aspect, setting up a false platform for filming purposes, but without overdoing it. On the other hand, he cares about drawing strong and real characters, played by Mark Wahlberg, Dylan O’Brien, Kurt Russell and Gina Rodriguez.
Directly condemning the industrial policies of the oil company responsible for the disaster, Deepwater proves to be a genuine plea for the working class to spare no means. The film was also nominated for an Oscar in the Best Visual Effects category.
