The project, which will chronicle the life of Queen Elizabeth II over six seasons, with one season dedicated to each decade of her reign, is nearing completion. However, Netflix has decided to increase the enjoyment of fans by splitting the broadcast of the last ten episodes of the historical series The Crown into two parts.
In total, three performers took turns portraying the British monarch: Claire Foy (seasons 1 and 2), Olivia Colman (seasons 3 and 4) and Imelda Staunton (seasons 5 and 6). From her ascension to the throne to managing numerous political, family and monarchical crises, Elizabeth II’s long reign was not a long, smooth river.
The Queen died on 8 September 2022 after a reign of over 70 years, passing the crown of England to her son, King Charles III. It’s not clear when the series will end (before or after her death), but show creator Peter Morgan did reveal that the Queen’s death led to a rewrite of the originally planned ending.
Released this Friday, November 16, the four episodes chronicle Lady Diana’s final days, leading up to her fatal accident in Paris on August 31, 1997. The disappearance of the People’s Princess has seriously tarnished the image of the British monarchy because of its silence. in which the queen wallowed in the days following her former daughter-in-law’s death.
In this sixth season, Diana Spencer will be played by Elizabeth Debic and her husband Charles (then Prince of Wales) will be played by Dominic West. The then Prime Minister Tony Blair, whose popularity increased significantly during this time, is played by Bertie Carvel.
The first four episodes of the final season of The Crown (Part 1) can be seen on Thursday 16 November from 9am.
