Jeffrey Donovan will not return for “Law & Order” season 23. According to the TVLine website, the producers are already looking for an actor to join the regular cast. The publication noted that the actor and producers had creative differences.
Donovan joined the cast in 2021, playing Detective Cosgrove in seasons 21 and 22, the series’ first revival. Cosgrove joined the NYPD team as the detective’s new partner. Kevin Bernard (Anthony Anderson). “Frank is a tough detective who seeks justice by any means necessary. Every procedural drama needs a bad cop, and Donovan shines,” reads the official character description, made available by the American network NBC.
Best known for his starring role as former CIA agent Michael Westen on the seven-season series “Burn Notice,” Donovan was also recently seen on FX’s “Fargo” and Hulu’s “Shut Eye.”
Without Donovan, the series continues with Sam Waterston as District Attorney Jack McCoy, Camryn Manheim as Lieutenant Kate Dixon, Hugh Dancy as Assistant District Attorney Nolan Price, and Odelya Halevi as Assistant District Attorney Samantha Maroun.
The actor’s departure marks the latest casualty of the series produced by Dick Wolf. Anderson, who reprized his role in season 21, left the series as soon as his one-year contract with NBC ended.
In Brazil the attraction is available on two platforms: the old episodes on Prime Video and the new ones on Globoplay.
