At AlloCiné, we like to shine a spotlight on the various features available across platforms. Today, focus on audio description. This is an essential tool for blind or partially sighted people. This feature allows them to have the best experience while watching movies, series, shows or documentaries made available online by Disney+.
This involves integrating the audio context, describing what is happening on the screen. Audio description is not automatically available on all content on the Platform. Its availability varies depending on the content, language and country where the program is distributed.
For example, take the French series, Irrésistible with Camelia Jordana, which started last September. Start by playing the program. Press pause and click on the small icon in the upper right corner of the screen as you can see in the screenshot below. These are the settings.

Then simply select the “French” option in the audio menu in the left column. Once audio description is activated, you’ll hear a voice that simply describes the action on screen with character quotes and dialogue between them.

Unfortunately, this feature is not available on all platforms. It exists most often in English, but not systematically in French. It’s still available in Disney movies like Encanto, Marvel movies like Captain Marvel, but it’s missing from the series side. To help you find your way around more easily, rely on the small “AD” icon for the audio description that appears on the contents pages, as shown below:

If you’re having trouble enabling audio description on DisneyPlus.com, the platform’s Help Center recommends first making sure you’re using the latest available version of a Disney+-compatible browser, i.e. Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari.
