How Mato Grosso do Sul became a point of reference in ecotourism

The Bonito region became the world’s first zero-carbon destination in 2023

How did Mato Grosso do Sul, which is a leading state in the agri-food sector, become a global ecotourism reference point? As a documentary filmmaker, this question led me to immerse myself in the region to understand how this was possible, together with director of photography Maxwell Polimanti, in collaboration with executive producer Gisele Abrahão, of the LPM.World platform.

Watch the video and watch the entire four-episode documentary in this one connection. The film was selected and screened at the Travel FilmFest international film festival in Europe in October. The work was a finalist in the best documentary category.

The municipality of Bonito was classified as the first carbon neutral ecotourism destination in the world in 2023. This means that the system considered absorbs more carbon than that emitted by the activities carried out. The certificate, granted by the Green Initiative, recognized by the UN (United Nations), allows the tourist destination to provide actions that encourage the innovation of climate-smart products and services.
