In 30 days, Luc Besson wrote the script for “Taxi”: Daniel, a Marseille taxi driver who is crazy about driving, is asked to collaborate with Emilien, a policeman who has lost his driver’s license, to break up a gang of robbers. A bank that scours the region with powerful vehicles.
Luc Besson, who monopolized the production of the fifth element, entrusted the director of this film to Gerard Pires. Together, they agreed on a risky casting consisting of then-virtually unknown Frederic Diefenthal and Sammy Nasser.
A successful bet, because their tandem works like thunder. Add to that great spectacle with chases and crazy stunts, hilarious lines that have become iconic and a soundtrack by IAM and it’s a hit!
When it was released in 1998, more than 6 million French people went to see it in cinemas. In addition, the film won a César for Best Sound and a César for Best Editing.
So a sequel logically saw the light of day two years later, this time under the direction of Gerard Krawczyk. While Daniel and Emilien embark on new adventures—in this case, a mission to rescue a Japanese defense minister kidnapped by ninjas—the film’s ingredients remain the same. Intense action scenes and always schoolboy humor.
Upon its release, Taxi 2 proved to be even more profitable than its predecessor – and its three successors -, attracting more than 10 million viewers to cinemas!
Taxi 2 Gerard Krawczyk with Sami Naseri, Frederic Diefenthal, Marion Cotillard…
