It’s 2015 when Alain Chabat has an idea to make a Christmas movie. The actor/comedian/director decided to take a hiatus three years ago to gain perspective on his career. But a short trip to the United States in the winter inspired what would become Santa & Cie, the synopsis of which is here:
Nothing goes right as the New Year approaches: 92,000 elves in charge of making children’s presents fall ill at the same time! This is a heavy blow to Santa (Claus), better known as Father Christmas…
He has no choice: he must rush to Earth with his reindeer to search for a cure. Upon arrival, he will have to find allies to help him save the magic of Christmas.
For his fifth feature, Chabat drew inspiration from iconic American comedies such as Bad Santa and Elf, but also from the French film Santa Claus with Tahar Rahim.
He was surrounded by a new generation of comedians – Grégoire Ludig and David Marsais of Palmashow and Bruno Sánchez – but also established comedians such as Golshifteh Farahan, Pio Marmay and Audrey Tautou.
Can you find Jean-Pierre Bakr hiding in Alain Shabat’s film?
A mix that seemed to please fans when it hit theaters a few years back. With an honorable rating of over 3.5/5 on AlloCiné, Santa & Cie is a very entertaining family watch on Disney+ to ease you into the magical season that is Christmas.
