5 years after Le Jeu de la Dame, the creator presents his new series shot in France!

After Emily in Paris, Daryl Dixon and The Assassin, it seems that France is becoming the new playground for American production. So will the soon-to-be new series, Monsieur Spade, created by Scott Frank (The Queen’s Gambit) and Tom Fontana (Oz, The Borgias).

AMC Networks has released the official trailer for this dark series directed by Clive Owen. He will play Sam Spade, Dashiell Hammett’s dashing private detective known for his novel Maltese FalconHe was forced to leave his peaceful retirement in the south of France and return to work to solve murders.

The detective series will also feature Alfred Woodard and Dean Winters, who will play Virginia Dell and Father Matthew. But above all, in the trailer we can see a wonderful cast of French actors: Louise Bourgoin, Denis Menochet, Jonathan Zaccai and Chiara Mastroianni.

Monsieur Spade is set in 1963, when the legendary private detective retires peacefully in the south of France. But the rumor of the return of an old adversary shakes everything up. Six nuns were brutally murdered in a local monastery.

As the town mourns, secrets emerge and new leads are laid. Crow, in his famous hat and trench coat, connects the crime scene to a mysterious child with great powers.

Everyone from the Vatican to the French Secret Service to the CIA is looking for this child. It broke my peacesays an exasperated crow in the trailer, as practicing naked swimming in a luxurious pool and chasing local lovers disrupts the arrival of trouble.

This brings Clive Owen back into the spotlight, currently in the excellent mini-series Murder at the End of the World, the creative duo behind The OA.

Monsieur Spade will air in mid-January on AMC, but does not yet have a broadcast date on Canal+ in France.
