The move to Itu meant that the player did not finish his education in Timão
Scorer of the Brazilians’ goal in the 2-1 defeat against Colombia, in the South American World Cup qualifiers, Gabriel Martinelli came to wear the Corinthians shirt in the youth team, but never played in the main Timão team.
Originally from Guarulhos, a municipality in the metropolitan region of São Paulo, the attacker played for Alvinegro between the ages of 10 and 13, leaving the Parque São Jorge team due to the family moving to Itu, in the interior of the state.
A standout in the club’s youth ranks, Martinelli scored 73 goals in 139 games and was described by the Corinthians management as a jewel to be polished. However, the distance between the capital Sao Paulo and Itu hindered the continuity of the then revelation in the team. The cities are separated by a distance of 115 km and, to continue with Corinthians, the athlete would have to face a daily commute of over 5 hours, without considering possible traffic complications.
At the time, the young man played as a centre-forward and his main references were Ronaldo Fenômeno and Tévez, renowned San Paolo strikers. At that moment he was already attracting the attention of European clubs, who intended to carry out training periods with the athlete.
With the change of city, Martinelli moved to Ituano, where he completed the rest of his training and turned professional in 2018, at the age of 16 years and nine months, becoming the youngest player to make his debut for the Club .
In 2019, when he turned 18, the striker moved to Arsenal, England, earning Galo Altaneiro a fee of around R$30 million.
