According to the institution, nations that produce two-thirds of greenhouse gases invested just 1% more in 2022, and the recent average has been an increase of 10% per year.
A Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) published this Friday the 17th a report that highlights a slowdown in climate action of countries in 2022 compared to the average of the last 20 years.
According to the institution, investment by nations that produce two-thirds of greenhouse gases increased by just 1% in 2022, and the recent average has been a 10% increase per year.
According to the OECD, while investments are decreasing, extreme weather events are increasing. In 2022, 46% of the population of member countries was exposed to extreme temperatures, and “this worsens agricultural droughts in most OECD countries and their partners”.
The report states that over the past 20 years there has been an average 2.4% decline in soil moisture across member countries and a 48% increase in the exposure of urban areas to coastal flooding.
The text highlights that, to achieve the Paris Agreement objective of limiting the increase in global temperature to within 1.5°C, it will be necessary to reduce emissions by approximately 30% more than the current reduction objectives by 2030.
