Nominee for Silicon Valley’s newest personality, Altman removed after ‘losing confidence in leadership’
American startup OpenAI, known for the artificial intelligence (AI) robot ChatGPT, has announced that the company’s founder, Sam Altman, will step down as executive chairman and board of directors of the company, according to a statement published this Friday afternoon 17.
According to OpenAI, Altman’s departure comes after the company’s board of directors decided that he was not “consistently clear in his communications with the board, undermining his responsibilities.”
“OpenAI’s board of directors has no confidence in Sam Altman’s ability to continue to lead,” the statement said. “We appreciate Altman’s many contributions to the founding and growth of OpenAI.”
On an interim basis, whoever will take on the role of CEO of OpenAI is Mira Muratithen Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of the company: in the startup world, this position is usually the second most important in the company hierarchy. Find out more about who Mira Murati is.
The company also says it believes Mira Murati should continue the company’s mission: she “is extremely qualified to assume the role of interim CEO. We have the utmost confidence in her ability to lead OpenAI during this transition period” , the board of directors said.
