Bullit and Riper are back and, unsurprisingly, they haven’t changed. To tell you the truth, the characters played by Cad Meradi and Olivier Barrou are even worse than before… but we’re not going to complain about that!
The movie heroes of the Pamela Rose saga have nine episodes here to solve a new case. However, the latter are quite overwhelmed by the events… Always goofy and nerdy, Bullit and Riper have become disconnected Boomers, and their interactions with the new, younger protagonists are often hilarious.
Shireen Boutella, Panayiotis Pascoe and Mr V have been fans of the franchise and are clearly looking up to Kad Merad and Olivier Barrou in excellent form. Generations clash in this new era, but the alchemy between the cast members is palpable.
They also voice a number of special guests whose interventions are even tastier than before. Therefore, nostalgic people should laugh like they used to, but curious children who get to know these colorful characters will no doubt be fascinated by the modernity embedded in the stories.
Moreover, unlike the Pamela Rose films, which largely gave pride of place to comedy, in this fiction we find a real, well-crafted investigation that is not pretentious. The laughs are mixed with a small dose of thriller with disturbing repeated murders of YouTubers.
Ludovic Colbo-Justin signs for polished production and highly aesthetic visuals. Photographed near Paris, Pamela Rose creates the illusion that she was in the United States in a box, with series carefully prepared down to the smallest detail. Uncle Sam’s Country has always fascinated Kad Merad and Olivier Barrou, both positively and negatively, and it shows on screen in the codes of American cinema and TV series. The word parody takes on its full meaning here, as the actors play on genre clichés without falling into vulgarity.
Like the good old days, the humor of Pamela Rose, the series is completely absurd and regressive, but not stupid. Cad Merad and Olivier Baru managed to escape the aging of Bullit and Riper, although they were created on the radio three decades ago… we see them again as two old friends, and it’s nice.
The actors have expressed their desire to return for season 2, which they have already started working on… so we hope that Canal+ will give them that opportunity.
