A year ago, the sudden death of Jean-Marc Vallée dashed hopes for a third season of Big Little Lies. Indeed, the Canadian director was closely involved with the production of the HBO series, as director of the first season and executive producer of the second.
But Nicole Kidman – the actress and producer of Big Little Lies – made an announcement that surprised everyone last Friday. During a Q&A (hosted for a golf tournament in Naples, Florida!), Nicole Kidman casually announced that there was to be a third season.
“I loved Big Little Lies“, he said in a video posted to his Instagram account about his favorite roles during a question-and-answer session before adding:We offer a third one, just for your information.“

HBO declined to comment on this quasi-renewal announcement, reports said TVLine.
This release fueled speculation that a new installment could finally see the light of day. According to DeadlineThere are no real talks going on at the moment, but there seems to be a desire to create a new season of Big Little Lies.
To be sure, just compare Kidman’s comments last Friday to what she said on the subject nearly four years ago, in January 2020.All are working. I hope to meet again at some point“- he said then, but it was before the death of Jean-Marc Vallée.
Casey Bloys, head of HBO, echoed his sentiments at the same time. “I think the thing about Big Little Lies is that there’s a group of people who really enjoy working together, but who are clearly the coolest people in the entertainment world.
Reese, Nicole, Zoe, Laura, everyone is very busy. It would be nice to have the band back at some point, but right now everyone is so busy and we have no idea where we all are, like “does that make sense.” I think it’s more about “one of those days”– he told Deadline.
Bruna Papandrea, executive producer of Big Little Lies, hinted earlier this year that the team could return to the series, whose second season ended on a cliffhanger with all the heroes preparing to go to the police station.
“I’ve been thinking about this a lot latelyBruna Papandrea told Deadline.I think a lot of people feel the same way I do, which is that they want to find a way to move on at some point.“
Big Little Lies was created and produced by David E. Kelly. The first season is based on Liane Moriarty’s 2014 novel of the same name.
