This Monday afternoon, Corinthians began preparation for the Copa São Paulo de Futebol Júnior, the traditional Copinha, of 2024. The young players from the Timão youth teams performed again under the guidance of Danilo, coach of the Under 20s.
In total there are 30 athletes called up for the Copinha. For the 2024 edition, the expectation is that Timãozinho’s roster will have a mix of the team that was champion of São Paulo under 17, with consolidated names in the under 20. It is not known, however, whether Danilo will continue to lead the team, as the club will have presidential elections on November 25 (Saturday) and the base may undergo structural changes.
This season’s results don’t help Danilo. This year Timãozinho was eliminated in the semi-finals of the Brazilian championship against Palmeiras, failed to overcome Fluminense in the quarter-finals of the Copa do Brasil and fell behind in the group stage of the Campeonato Paulista.
In the last edition of Copinha, Corinthians was eliminated in the third phase by Sport, losing the duel 2-1. Alvinegro is the biggest champion of the Copa São Paulo de Futebol Júnior in the country, with 10 cups, but his last triumph it happened in 2017.
Copinha will begin on January 2, 2024.
