More than ten years separate the release of the film Scott Pilgrim from the launch of the animated series of the same name on Netflix. A dismal failure at the box office in 2010, Brian Lee O’Malley’s comic book adaptation has nonetheless rehabilitated itself over time, to the point where it is now considered a cult classic in the eyes of the public.
Many observers agree that Edgar Wright’s film was definitely ahead of its time. And it’s no coincidence that several of its performers have experienced huge success in their careers, starting with Brie Larson (Oscar for Best Actress for Room), Chris Evans and even Michael Cera.
The animated series Scott Pilgrim, which Netflix released on November 17, presents itself as both a new adaptation of the comic book and a modified and reworked version of the original work.
Author Brian Lee O’Malley wrote each of the nine episodes, and the program was animated by Japanese studio Science Saru (Star Wars Visions).
Of course, since the film already had the perfect cast for each role, Edgar Wright (credited as a producer) decided to reactivate the old casting email chain to convince all of Scott Pilgrim’s translators to return to work for this new one. version.
During the interview with our colleagues Rolling StoneThe English film director thus revealed the text sent to the entire cast of Scott Pilgrim. It only took three hours for all the artists to respond to an email and agree to return to the world of Scott Pilgrim. Here is an email sent by Edgar Wright:
“Hi everybody
I have good news. We have been talking about this for several years. You may have heard about this, but we’re doing a Scott Pilgrim anime for Netflix, and they just got a series order. Brian Lee O’Malley wrote all the screenplays with Ben David Grabinski. They are both faithful adaptations and something different – surprising and great fun. I think these are really special scripts.
And I’m sure you’ll be thinking the same thing as me. Of course, your presence (the greatest actor of all time*) would be a dream come true that would have a special meaning for each of us, of course, but I’ll say it anyway. Jared (LeBoeuf, film and series producer – editor’s note) will get back to you with more information, but I’m impressed with what I’ve seen so far and think it’s going to be a great sequel and favorite of this great book.
With you, Jared.
Edgar
Yes, even better than the godfather.”
