$1.6 billion: After 7 years, one of the best action sagas is really coming back with a 6th movie!

After the success of Jason Bourne’s latest opus and its worldwide gross of $415 million, fans are wondering if the super-spy will return for a new mission. The good news has finally come to us at the latest. According to the American media, Universal Pictures has started the production of the 6th part of the saga!

After Doug Liman, Tony Gilroy and Paul Greengrass, German director Edward Berger is set to helm the new episode of Jason Bourne. The director of Nothing New in the West was awarded the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film in 2023.

According to the sources he cites Deadline, the film would not yet have an established script and would only be in the early stages of development. Matt Damon, who plays Jason Bourne in 4 of the 5 films in the franchise, has already been approached to reprise his role.

During the promotion of the last opus of the saga in 2016, the 53-year-old actor assured that it was not at all a farewell to the character and he would not mind returning in the future. At the microphone of Digital Spy, the artist even confided that if they found a good story by bringing together Jason Bourne and Aaron Cross (Jeremy Renner in Jason Bourne: Legacy), he would have to do a crossover.

However, in 2017, the actor told the Toronto Sun: “The last movie didn’t come out like we did 10 years ago, so maybe the audience is done with the character.” However, Matt Damon clouded the picture a bit, with the latest installment having nearly as much worldwide success as Revenge at Cannes (415 million vs. 444). In total, the license earned $1.6 billion worldwide.

Adapted from Robert Ludlum’s trilogy of spy novels, Jason Bourne is set to return to the big screen very soon to the delight of action fans!
