Catherine Hardwicke recalled the difficulty for the studios to accept making the adaptation
Catherine Hardwickedirector of Twilight, stated that he did not expect the success of the film and, especially, its million-dollar box office. In a podcast interview Watchalongthe filmmaker recalled the difficulty in getting the project off the ground, as many studios refused production:
“Every studio in town refused [o filme]. MTV and Paramount backed off. Everyone said we couldn’t do it. Even when I started the job, they said, ‘You know, Four Friends and a Traveling Jeans It was a popular book among girls. He earned US$29 million. That’s probably all this movie can yield'”said Hardwicke.
“And our opening weekend was $69 million and we made $400 million total. No one could have predicted that!”added the filmmaker.
