Photographer Lucas Bento, who works as a paparazzo, filed a criminal complaint against Jorge Ben Jor. He claims he was attacked by the singer without provocation at Santos Dumont airport, in Rio, on Saturday night (25/11).
In his report, he explains that he was recording the landing of an actress, around 9.30pm, when he was “attacked” from behind by the singer.
“I was looking at the camera when I felt someone grab me and pull me by the neck. He said I shouldn’t take pictures of him. I tried to tell him I wasn’t going to take pictures of him, and he proceeded to pull me by the neck. He said I said no that I had to take pictures of him. I tried to let him know that I wasn’t going to take pictures of him, and he kept pulling me by the neck and my coat,” the photographer told columnist Luca Pasino.
Lucas said he initially did not recognize Jorge Ben Jor and only realized who the attacker was after he managed to free himself from him. “I don’t have any photos of him. He wasn’t even close to the actress I photographed, she was just in the same place. I hadn’t even seen him or pointed the camera at him.”
It claims the singer only freed his neck after the attack attracted a crowd. Then, the artist turned his back and headed towards the airport taxi stand.
Paparazzi took photos of his neck shortly after the incident and filed a complaint against Jorge Ben Jor at 5 DP, Centro, Rio, where he went to the police station accompanied by Anna Andrade, who also works at airport shooting videos of celebrities.
“I was doing my job, I turned around and saw Jorge Ben Jor tied around the photographer’s neck. He said: ‘Are you taking a picture of me? I’ll hit you!’. He kept saying he was going to break the photographer,” said the witness, who stressed that several people saw the scene. “The taxi drivers came to see, it was something really desperate. The photographer’s neck was completely scratched.”
