5. The Animated Castle (2004)

Sophie is a normal girl and employed in a hat shop in the city where she lives. One day she meets a charming wizard named Howl, who catches her attention and takes him for a casual walk around the neighborhood. After this meeting, the young girl is attacked by an evil spell, cast by a witch, which transforms her into a 90-year-old woman.

Devastated by the curse, she must find the wizard Howl and ask him to reverse the spell. As they both get to know each other better, Sophie decides to help him face the evil sorcerers who threaten her world.

4. Kiki’s Delivery Service (1989)

Kiki is a young witch in training and the owner of a black kitten named Jiji. After practicing important spells for a while, like flying on broomsticks, she must obey her mother and leave for a town where there are no witches (aside from her, of course). This is because Kiki must blend in with conventional humans and stay in her chosen city for a year as a form of learning. The anime explores Kiki’s journey to self-knowledge and independence and demonstrates the difficulties a person faces in order to mature.

3. Porco Rosso: The Last Romantic Hero (1992)

Marco Porcellino used to work as a military aviator, but now works as a freelancer in the sector of capturing air pirates. In other words, he flies his plane to shoot down and capture mercenaries. One day he is cursed and transformed into an anthropomorphic pig and for this reason he adopts the name “Porco Rosso”.

The pig is already an old acquaintance of the pirates and is causing so much trouble for the mercenaries that they have decided to hire an American pilot to duel with him.

2. I Can Hear the Ocean (1993)

Taku and Yutaka have been best friends forever and have never had any major problems keeping their friendship firm and strong. However, a new student arrives in their class and everything changes: her name is Rikako and she will become the target of both friends’ passion. In this love triangle, the two friends must decide what is more important: maintaining their friendship or investing in a romance. The decision, however, is not easy and affects the relationship between the three.

The young prince Emishi Ashitaka is cursed after facing a boar god and must then travel the world to find a cure before the curse kills him. Meanwhile he comes across a place hosting a fierce battle between the animal gods of a forest and the citizens of a village.

These residents control a mine and are destroying the local biodiversity, provoking the fury and reaction of the gods. After becoming involved in the conflict, Emishi meets Princess Mononoke and must decide whether or not to get involved in the war while he searches for a cure.
