Iron Man has faced some of the worst villains Marvel has ever faced, but there’s one foe that truly scares him the most

Iron Man has faced the most diverse threats in Marvel comics, from the simplest street criminals, to industrial spies, through powerful aliens such as Thanos, up to beings endowed with divine abilities, such as Korvac. But there’s one villain in particular who Tony Stark he’s really scared – and he’s not even a superior being.

Beware of spoilers for The Invincible Iron Man #12!

In The Invincible Iron Man #12, recently released, Riri Williams faces Emma Frost, while Tony Stark and Wilson Fisk are in a laboratory in a branch of the Hellfire Club. For those who don’t know, both Iron Man and Kingpin teamed up against a common enemy, the anti-mutant organization Orchis.

But, even though they work on the same side, tensions between Stark and Fisk begin to rise, and as Kingpin’s anger increases, Iron Man begins to panic. Stark says he has fought some of the worst villains, such as Thanos and Obadiah Stane, as well as Captain America; but he admits that no one was more intimidating than Kingpin.

Even without superpowers, Kingpin is one of the scariest villains in the Marvel Universe and the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) – and Iron Man is right to be afraid. During his recent reign of terror as mayor of New York, Wilson Fisk has ruined countless lives, superpowered and otherwise.

Daredevil learned the hard way what happens when the Kingpin is crossed, and Fisk would have no qualms about doing the same to Iron Man. Luckily for Stark, there are more pressing matters involving Orchis at the moment.
