Wish – Disney’s Asha and the Lucky Star: A Great Musical and Magical Adventure to See at the Cinema with the Family

Presented to celebrate the centennial of the Disney Studios, this film from an original screenplay explores the studio’s favorite theme: wishes. Wishes are featured in every Disney movie, from Snow White to Pinocchio, including The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, The Princess and the Frog, and Frozen.

Title “When we pray to a lucky starBorrowed from Pinocchio, it has become a true symbol of the studio since the first notes of music composed by Lee Harline accompany the studio logo before each film.

A film on a favorite subject for the studio

With Wishes – Asha and Lucky Star, Wishes is at the heart of the film. To live peacefully in Rosas, you just have to entrust your precious wish to the king and wait to see if it will come true. Except that by giving him his most precious dream, you will forget him. And that’s something that young Asha (voiced by Ocean Demontis in the French version) quickly realizes. What is the point of entrusting your deepest desires to someone who is not going to fulfill them, takes away what you vibrate for and prevents you from achieving it?

Because that’s the whole theme of Disney Studios’ sixty-second feature film. Understand that everyone has what it takes to achieve their dreams.

During our meeting with director Chris Buck and Fawn Weerasunthorn, the director told us:The theme of desire is universal. The film also talks about human nature. When you feel like you’re losing hope or looking for inspiration, you often look to the sky and tell yourself that there is something bigger than you. So I think it’s a very Disney theme and a very universal theme.

The wish is a collective letter of love and thanks to Walt and the artists who came before us.

The studio managed to create an original story while incorporating previous films. But don’t try to count them all, there are more than a hundred, and directors Chris Buck and Fawn Weerasunthorn themselves don’t know how many there are since the whole team was involved.

The director tells us about it:We focused our energy on creating an original story and characters. But once it was all in place, many people came to us asking if it was possible to add this or that reference. We saw it as a way for everyone involved to express their love for the characters that inspired them. The wish is a collective letter of love and thanks to Walt and the artists who came before us.”

The audience will especially appreciate the scene in the forest, during which the animals start talking. It echoes many Disney films: Snow White, Cinderella, but also Bambi and Robin Hood.

Like all Disney characters, young Asha is full of joy Sidekicks. Valentino, a 3-week-old baby with a velvety voice (voiced by Gerard Darmont in French) and a lovable star who will do anything to help Asha realize her dream.

Director Chris Buck describes this little character as “A ball of energy that represents hope, light, optimism, creativity and imagination – everything that Walt Disney represents here at the studio.“Secondary characters that will greatly entertain young viewers.

What might be bothering them: Like the Disney classics, King Magnifico (voiced by Lambert Wilson) is a true villain who slowly shows his true colors. Certain scenes in the film are reminiscent of Ursula’s transformation into the Little Mermaid, or Jafar’s transformation into Aladdin. If at first the character is quite pleasant, we quickly realize that Rosa’s sovereign is unfair.

People come from all over the world to manifest their deepest desires, and Magnifico is the only one who decides which ones come true and when. Screenwriter Alison Moore explains in the press kit: “Magnifico seems to think that desires are nothing more than ideas, even though they come from the depths of the soul. This carelessness helps him to store them in hundreds of bubbles. Most of these desires will remain forever encapsulated. So by giving false hope he controls his kingdom.”

Like Asha, the younger will feel a great injustice when he discovers that wishes, apparently harmless, will never be granted by the king.

What they will keep deep: By the end of the feature film, the youngest will have the feeling that nothing is impossible and that they have everything inside them to make their dreams come true and make their voice heard.

They will understand that dreaming is important and that you have to work hard to achieve your dreams. Producer Jennifer Lee explains this in the press kit: “The star represents everything that keeps us going through hard times, but it doesn’t give us a job. However, that spark of magic is comforting. The star is there to remind Asha that she shouldn’t give up and stay hopeful, that open-mindedness leads to an answer.”

Because the second theme of the film is hope. Theme song from the movie “I Make the Wish”: “If this beautiful hope can carry me on. Let me believe that the weather will be fine tomorrow. I wish one day to see the world happy again.” Actual words that deliver a real message of hope.

Director Chris Buck Explanation: “Disney has a long history of songwriting, and we’re maintaining that template while introducing something new. And that’s exactly what Julia Michaels and Benjamin Rice did with “I Make a Wish.”“.”

Benjamin Rice and Julia Michaels performed songs for Dua Lipa, Pink and Selena Gomez and wrote seven original songs for Wish – Asha and the Lucky Star. Composer Dave Metzger – musical arrangement for Frozen Diptych – composed the score.

Adults, on the other hand, will appreciate the second level of reading and the criticism of society and leaders who try to steal dreams in order to lead quietly.
